What is the ProCare Post-Op Shoe Used For? A post surgical shoe also known as a Post-Op Shoe is a medical shoe used to protect the foot and toes after surgery or injury. It is a rigid-hard sole shoe sometimes built with a rocker style base. And looks like on oversized sandal with a flat, inflexible sole. The ProCare Squared Toe Post-Op Shoe works to help keep your foot in a neutral posture. Allowing for ease of walking and pressure reduction following injury or surgery to protect and promote healing. Often used in assisting post-operative treatment of Hallux Valgus, bunions, other toe deformities Assist healing of simple foot or toe fractures and other foot trauma A Post-Op shoe is fantastic in assisting the enhanced recovery of toe and foot injuries. Often an important part of post surgical protocols prescribed by foot and ankle surgeons. Utilized where maximum immobilisation and protection of the forefoot is required. When Should A ProCare Squared Toe Post-Op Shoe Be Worn? The majority of our customers use this rehabilitation aid for short-term management of a broken toe. These shoes are designed to provide protection and support during everyday activities, particularly after toe or foot injuries and surgeries. They are most commonly recommended for broken toes and for post-surgical recovery following bunion correction. Note: It is okay to wear a sock or compression stocking or bandage when wearing the ProCare Squared Toe Post-Op Shoe. Dual Velcro strap adjustments allow the shoe upper to be adjusted accordingly. How Do You Walk Wearing A Post-Surgical Shoe? People often feel that they need to walk flat footed. However if they are allowed to weight-bear on their foot, then we suggest they at least try to roll from heel to toe. This usually feels more comfortable for them and is a more normal gait pattern. And therefore walking this way is less likely to cause new pains from compensatory movement patterns in the knees and hips. The straps should be tightened until firm, but make sure they are comfortable. If there are wounds on the top of the foot care needs to be taken not to make these straps too tight, but tight enough to ensure your foot doesn’t slip around in the shoe. What Is The Purpose Of Wearing A Post-Op Shoe? The shoe is designed to offload your foot, altering the load patterns when weight bearing. This helps decrease pain enabling comfortable movement after injury, or surgery. Ultimately allowing continued day to day function and mobility whilst providing the appropriate support and protection so you can heal. Features & Benefits of the ProCare Squared Toe Post-Op Shoe: The square-toe design provides additional room for toes that acts as a bumper to provide protection. Causing discomfort in neighboring joints, as well as pains in the other supporting leg. Pains that commonly come about as a result of persistent “limping” movement patterns. If you have been prescribed to wear a Procare Post-Op shoe for an extended period (for clarity I would define that as greater than 10 days) we would suggest purchasing the EvenUp Shoe Leveler to go with it. The EvenUp is worn on the opposite side to the Post-Surgical shoe, enabling smoother and more comfortable movement, reducing the likelihood of developing any associated aches and pains.
