How To Use The Hand Strength Trainer Grip strength is commonly used in research as a simple marker of general health and healthy ageing. Training hand and forearm strength can support daily function and sport. Your hands and wrists are powered by many muscles in the hand (intrinsic) and forearm (extrinsic) that work together to open, close, and stabilise the fingers and thumb. Starter Routine Squeeze: Wrap your fingers around the trainer ball and squeeze smoothly for about one second, then relax. Open: Place the elastic cord over your fingers and gently spread them against light resistance for about one second, then relax. Sets & reps: Perform 2–3 sets of 8–15 controlled repetitions for each movement. Rest 30–60 seconds between sets. The Goal: Aim to reach a comfortable level of muscle fatigue at the completion of the sets. Tips Programming is individualised, but most people benefit from short, frequent sessions using both squeezing and finger-spreading movements. Progressing resistance from blue to yellow as comfort and strength improves. Choose a resistance that feels challenging but not painful. Move slowly and keep your wrist in a neutral position throughout the squeeze and finger extension movements. Aim to train 3–4 days per week, leaving at least one rest day between. Particularly relevant between harder sessions. If you experience pain, numbness, or unusual symptoms. Or you are using this device to manage an existing problem, seek advice from your physiotherapist before continuing.
